OSRS Combat Guide

Combat in OSRS is unique to other online platforms. You don’t have just walk around smashing things, but rather click and have your character automatically engage in battle. Mastering the ways of combat can be difficult; but hey, we’ve got a detailed guide to help you learn. Let’s have a look!

Combat

Combat in OSRS is molded into a more dynamic system than RuneScape. For instance, you aren’t locked into a three-hit round concept. You are free to run around and kill as much as you like. The weapon speed also varies between the two.

Anyhow, players don’t think of combat as a mandatory part of the game as the majority of content is based around it. Combat is mostly for players who are dedicated to PVP or PVM gameplay. You’ll get a better understanding of the fundamentals in the next section.

Melee

Many say that combat is centered on melee as it’s the main factor for increasing your character’s level. Melee has three different skills involved, Attack, Strength, and Defense, making it more complex than the other combat methods.

Attack does not affect your max hit and it is focused on the accuracy you have on your hits while fighting the enemy. The skill is also a requirement to equip high-tier weapons, which, upon wielding, inflicts more damage.

Whereas, Strength determines your max hit. You can get it to the same level as your attack to increase weapon efficiency during battle.

Defense plays a major role in hardening you against Melee, Ranged, and Magic attacks. Similar to Attack, you need to level your Defense to equip high-tier equipment.

Ranged

Ranged first came out as an accessory skill, and it wasn’t until RuneScape 2 was released that players used it without being forced into melee combat. Ranged is mostly used to safe-spot monsters and vicious bosses. It’s also quite popular in the PVP world.

Many players utilize Range to increase their HP levels without having to increase their other combat stats. However, you do need to increase your Defense for high-tier Ranged equipment. Also, if you equip melee armor while ranging, do check your stats first because they give out a negative defensive bonus. That’s primarily why it is designed to counter melee specialists.

Magic

Magic has its own way of calculating the experience gained. The reason is that you get XP even with unsuccessful strikes. Defending yourself from magic entirely relies upon both, your Magic and Defense levels.

You’ll have access to many teleportation spells to make your traveling easier. Likewise, there are also many spells that can easily KO your enemies. You’ll come across different spell books as you progress in the game.

Conclusion

Now that you have your head wrapped around Combat, we hope it’s not complicated anymore. Each character can access all three combat styles. So, make sure you level them accordingly. Good luck!
